At the harbor by Judith Clay |
her umbrella in hand.
Departure time had come;
had went and she was wet
for it rained cats, and dogs,
and wombats, and ocelots,
and toucans, and hedgehogs
and a couple pear tree partridges.
The steamer churned and in it’s wake,
it kicked up the creatures of the deep:
Squids and eels, whales and seals,
Catfish and halibut. To her credit
Judith caught a fish!

Ha ha, I am glad she caught a fish instead of an ocelot or a hedgehog!!
ReplyDeleteI had fun with this, Mary. Judith's art lends itself to whimsy and mirth, in my mind. The pub is a wonderful place for word play.
Deletehaha....she caught a fish...of all the animals that is was raining...i guess catching a few of those might be a little painful...unless you had a zoo....smiles.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun exercise. It struck me in a funny way, and the animals were just a rant gone right! Thanks for your support, Brian.
Deletenice...i like the fast pace in this...and all the things it was raining..ha...luckily she has that big red umbrella you know...smiles
ReplyDeleteThanks Claudia. The pace was a bit more playful than I first envisioned. It did work well, didn't it? I appreciate your stopping by.
DeleteI love the animals... and the end...great credit to catch a fish... very befitting the picture
ReplyDeleteYour comments are uplifting. Thanks for the boost, Bjorn!
DeleteThis was fun to read a shower of animals but, lucky for her she caught a fish.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when the wildebeest start to drop! Thanks Truedessa!
ReplyDeleteIn all that she should get at least a fish. Of course, I've been fishing when it rained elephants and couldn't even catch a peanut.
ReplyDeleteOr a cold, eh Mark? Thanks for the smile!
Delete...oh, good for her... we can only catch one at a time... or at least just the right amount for that particular time... make it frequent & she may have a better chance of catching more... enjoyed it... smiles...
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelvin!
DeleteJeep, my first time here, and thanks for stopping by my blog... this was so clever, the cats and dogs... and wombats and... you just went to town on all that wildlife raining from the sky, and lucky Judith: At least she caught something she could eat, and that wouldn't eat her! Great fun. Thanks, Amy
ReplyDelete...Unless the harbor was filled with sharks or piranha! I'm so happy you came by Amy. I'm new at this poetry blogging and I enjoy your space very much. Glad to associate with great poets. Nice to "meet" you.
Delete..raining so many different things...a storm bound to stir up something, as she missed the boat anyway it was a productive day..
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, kkkkaty!
